The Weekend Dance

What? Is that ice on that car?

Um yes. We had our first frost on Saturday morning.

So, from here on, every nice day is Indian Summer, I guess. And may it be a long one.

I spent Saturday with Jane. We hit an estate sale in Cambridge but the bones were picked pretty clean by the time we arrived, around 10:00 a.m. Apparently the die-hards had slept in their cars, in order to get the early-entrance jump on us lazy slugs.

After that we stopped in to check out a small antique show, also in Cambridge. I bought a blue bowl

and had a hard time moving away from a blue and white transferware pitcher that was priced just a bit too high. Then, more shopping, a good lunch, lots of catching up.

A good day, despite that early frost.

Today I got to tread some city streets.

I had a brunch date with Will, AKA Mr. Early Adapter,

and his friend Kelley.

I ordered the Apple Pancake of dreams:

Oh my. Brought more than half of this creation home with me.

After Will and Kelley took off on their errands, I continued the quest to find an issue of Quiltmania. Not an easy task! Earlier in the week, I had tried three different bookstores, without success. Today I went to two more and finally scored a copy. FIVE bookstores! That's determination.

I love this magazine--they showcase some very fresh-looking designs. And it was very cool to see an almost LQS and one of my very favorite shopping destinations--Country Sampler in Spring Green, Wisconsin--featured, along with one of their wonderful kitted quilts.

The last several summers, we've enjoyed daily visits from a pair of sandhill cranes. We've fed them cracked corn, supplied drinking water, and have gotten to get to know them up close and personal as they've pecked at and peered in our windows. This year they haven't been around every single day, but they've come quite often.

As you might expect, Lucy takes quite a dim view of these big flappy creatures with their raucous honking. Here she is watching them, every molecule at attention, lest the cranes decide to attack.

This makes us feel MUCH safer.

frost? nooooooo. so does Lucy bark like mad at the cranes, making that much more noise? I wonder what my cats would do? are the cranes still birds=prey or are the cranes huge scary predators to hide from... not likely we'll find out.

What a fun day with Will and his friend -- and that pancake! I will say this for the frost -- at least the mosquitoes seem to not be as bad since it's gotten colder! (I miss my warm weather though!!!)

OOOo I love your blue bowl. I would so love to go to that quilt shop! So which issue of QuiltMania has that article/quilt in it? I don't remember seeing it in the latest one I got, but it seems my subscription comes really late.

Bless Lucy's heart! I wish Leo had some of her coat. We had him clipped, & he has spent the day shivering, poor boy. It turned cold again!
Love that blue bowl, & reading of your outings etc.
