Wordiness

So--tah dah--here is my Four Letter Words quilt top completed:

I added a narrow spacer border using wordy background fabrics, then did an improvisational dash border, alternating the background fabrics and the solid brights.

This pieced border was made up as I went along but I really like the way it looks with the wonky words. And I may well use it again.

The outer border is good old reliable piano keys.

Let's see--how many quilts have I used piano key borders on in the last year? This is at least the third. So I'm in a rut. What else is new?

Three sides of the quilt are fairly straight, but the left side is pretty slanty. I had debated making an extra wide outer border on the left side, so as to square things up. But I decided against it. This whole quilt is whacked out and the border being out of square is consistent with the general theme. It stays.

Now to quilt it. I think I'll slide into one of my quilting ruts--I think my wobbly echo quilting will be just the thing on this quilt. And I think I'll use a variety of bright colors.

TGIF, everyone!

The quilt is wonderful and I just love your background fabrics. Did you collect pieces with writing or just go out and buy some fat quarters?

Wow, Kathie, that turned out GREAT! And I love the dashed border...those little blips of color really set off the whole thing. I'll bet you'll start seeing more borders like that on folks' blogs...too good an idea not to steal it!

This quilt is amazing. It'll look great on the wall when you're finished. The background is a brilliant idea, and hey, if the border works, why not repeat it. The wonkiness of the accent border ties everything together well. Wonderful job. I am coveting this quilt!

Wow, this is fabulous! It almost looks like you pieced it with newspapers! A great idea, and a great quilt! Your inner pieced border is really zingy, and I still love the piano key borders. It suits this quilt well, rut or not! I love this quilt!

What a wonderful quilt! The fabrics are so much fun, that dash border is the best, and the whole thing is fascinating to look at. Keep it where you can see it. :)

Where did you get all those wordy fabrics? I try and buy them whenever I see them, but I have never seen that many!

This is so fabulous. Will you hang it in the library? Great place for words.
