Mr. Kathie spent this past week in Upper Michigan visiting family and friends. It's nice, the freedom one has when one is retired, isn't it? But some of us still are reporting to the salt mines every day. And someone has to take care of Lucy... So I was on my own all week.
I worked on the Four Letter Words quilting nearly every night and am about one evening away from finishing it. A design question remaining to be dealt with is whether to square it or not. Right now it's wonky and off-square. Once it's quilted, I'll lay it out and grapple with that issue.
The *highlight* of the week: Tuesday evening, I was quilting away in my basement sewing room, completely in the zone. Lucy was down there with me and had been alternating between chasing the cat and napping on a pillow. I looked up from the quilting and noticed Lucy standing in front of the sewing room closet door. It's a mirrored door and my first thought was that she was looking at herself in the mirror, and how cute was that... Then I realized she was concentrating, with her doggie sixth sense, on SOMETHING beyond that closed door.
Oh no! Sure enough--I opened the door and there was a mouse on a sticky trap. Alive. And with Mr. Kathie gone, there was no one to deal with it but me.
A better person might have tried to release it alive, but I'm not that virtuous. I bagged the whole thing up, trap and all, and into the trash it went.
I'm still extremely ticked at another mouse who got into the box of 25 year old baby clothes I can't bear to discard, and chewed his way through it all last winter. Including at least one hand-smocked dress.
So take THAT, mouse.

What a tyrant you are!!
My goodness, thank heavens Lucy's puppy senses were tingling, I don't think I would have liked to encounter that mouse under different circumstances.
*hugs*

:-)
I would have done the same thing!
I've had some mouse-y adventures through the years in various houses and am thrilled to say that I haven't seen evidence of any here at the new place. And to the amusement of the rest of my family, I am always on the lookout!
I'm with you...no mercy.
Good for you and Lucy, get that rodent and ship it out!
My sentiments exactly.
And I love being home alone with the dog, sewing, reading, not getting dinner.

I'm crying for you - as we just sorted through summer clothes & I pulled several for a future project...
Serves him right! And good dog!
I love Lucy, lol. What a good dog. I had a rat chew a hole through the floor next to a toilet once, it was stealing the large dog biscuits. I took care of that rat but thank goodness I didn't have to dispose of it.
Oh, I felt a pang for the mouse,... but when I read about the baby clothes.. lost it!!
Lucy is one clever girl! Hugs from meXX
